How this 3D printing cost estimate is calculated

This calculator runs the same public formula as our real quotes: machine time at £2 per hour, material by the gram (with a 7% waste allowance), £2.50 handling per item and £0.45 per order, with a £4.50 minimum per item and £8.50 minimum order. Extra copies of the same part are discounted automatically — 5% off extras at 5+, up to 20% at 50+. The full breakdown, with real catalogue parts as worked examples, is in our 3D printing cost guide.

One honest caveat: print time here is estimated from weight (about 75 g per hour at 0.20 mm layers, calibrated on our print-tested catalogue). Your real quote measures your actual file — geometry, volume and surface area — so it will differ a little, and it's the real quote that's locked in at checkout. Not sure which material? The materials page compares all eight.
